Hughes to Nelson
Charles Leadbitter Hughes (1816-1876) Charles Leadbitter Hughes was born in Pall Mall, London in 1816. He married Lydia Eady in St Ives, Huntingdon in 1839. He moved to Lincoln in the early 1850s. He was an Attorney & Solicitor living at 2 New Road (later Lindum Road), Lincoln, in 1857 had an office at 181 High Street, Lincoln. Later became a partner with John Thomas Tweed but the partnership was dissolved in 1863.. A short time later he set up a partnership in the name of Hughes & Son at City Chambers, Lincoln. Mayor of Lincoln in 1872. He died in 1876 |

John Jekyll (1825-1911)
John Jekyll was born in Lincoln in 1825, the son of Robert and Rebecca Jekyll. He was a veterinary surgeon. He married Elizabeth Claborough in 1848.
In the early 1850s Jekyll established a chemical manure business with William Singleton on the south side of Carholme Road. They were later joined by William Gresham. The partnership was dissolved in 1857 and Jekyll carried on with business. George Glasier and Charles Pratt joined with Jekyll, on the death of Charles Pratt in 1882 the firm became Jekyll, Glasier & Co. The partnership between Jekyll and Glasier was dissolved in 1897 and Jekyll continued the business.
John Jekyll died in 1911.
Edwin Keyworth (1827-1911)
Edwin Keyworth was born in Lincoln in 1827, the son of Thomas M. Keyworth and Elizabeth H Bunyan. He married Harriet Wholey in 1852. Edwin was a printer and bookbinder and, following the death of Charles Akrill in 1895, bought Akrill's stationery business with John William Ruddock. Ruddock became sole proprietor of the business in 1904.
Edwin died on 6 Mar 1911

John Jekyll was born in Lincoln in 1825, the son of Robert and Rebecca Jekyll. He was a veterinary surgeon. He married Elizabeth Claborough in 1848.

Thomas Michael Keyworth (1800-1858)
Thomas Michael Keyworth was born 1800 in Lincoln, a silent partner in Clayton, Shuttleworth & Co. Married Elizabeth Haldenby Bunyan in 1827. Established the first steam powered mill in Lincoln in 1836 with Charles Seely. Died in 1858 in Hampshire, his wife died in 1900 at the age of 98.
William Robert Lilly (1861-1936 )
William Robert Lilly was born in Lincoln in 1861, parents William and Mary (nee Watson ) Lilly. He married Mary Bavin in 1883. He was a surveyor and insurance agent for Midland Counties Insurance (later Royal Insurance). Sheriff of Lincoln in 1907. He died in Weston-Super-Mare in 1936

Frank Maltby was born in 1881 In Metheringham, his father, Harry Maltby was a plumber in 1881 and by 1891 was the licensee of the Red Lion at Dunston and a farmer.
In 1910 Frank opened his chemist shop in Corporation Street
Frank married Edith Mary Tillett, daughter of Arthur John Tillett, Managing Director of Market Rasen Brewery Company, in 1922. Frank died in 1945.

Joseph Maltby was born in Lincoln in 1831, his parents were Joseph and Mary (nee Battle) Maltby. He married Lydia Casterton in 1856 in Market Rasen. He was a chemist at Lucy Tower Street in 1861, later moving to 64 Newland. Mayor of Lincoln in 1873. He died in 1900.

William Battle Maltby was born in Faldingworth in 1827. His parents were Joseph and Mary (nee Battle) Maltby. He married Jane Wattam in 1858 at Lincoln. He was a chemist at 5 Bailgate, Lincoln employing 1 apprentice in 1861.
He succeeded Joseph Maltby, his brother, as Mayor in 1874-5. He died in 1877

William Marshall was born in Ely, Cambridgeshire in 1810, parents Joseph and Jane Marshall. He married Frances Charlotte Beaty of Harwich in 1842. He was a brewer and maltster, with John Marshall, his brother, at 18 Waterside North, Lincoln, and Mayor of Lincoln in 1848.

He was a builder, foundry manager, land agent and magistrate. Mayor of Lincoln in 1887. He died 1907 in Lincoln
